Ps. to Rug Maker

I listened the Piano Guys while writing the two previous texts. Somehow I like their energy and understand it. I’ve also tried to listen to Häuser and 2Cellos. For some reason while listening to them I have to choose, I either listen or I watch. It doesn't otherwise go together in my head. Then it is about which sense to nourish, the eyes :-) or the ears. Perhaps their music and pattern just hasn’t opened up to me yet completely.

I was encouraged to publish the thoughts in the previous text in case there would be something for someone else. I’ve had to ask if it is okay to exist like this, find my way into authenticity. And it is a daily practice and a special practice for someone who thinks so much everything from different angles. I think the previous text also came out a bit in haste. I somehow had to push myself out of the entangled yarn piles to find peace and it helped. Perhaps there were elements of the Tove Jansson’s  Moomin story “The Invisible Child” and that was the part where Moomin father ended up in the sea and the head of the child became visible through anger.

It is so with these skills of a rug maker, they are all the time developing. I forgot to add the fringe to both ends so I do it now.

These piles of yarn we inherit are of course of different size, there are educational differences, different tempers etc. These are so complicated, there really needs to be respect towards the piles and our humanity. We all see the colors and shades of the piles differently as well. It is like the case of the blue or white dress that was on the media a couple of years ago. But when there is a total lack of connection it leaves a grief inside and you wonder if there is an end date for that. If so, then we just make rugs, put it in good use.

So I understand that we don’t all have the same possibility to get the same tools, crochet hooks in all possible sizes to do the task. A favorite hook we have bought from a journey to Bergen in Norway and the patterns we find in the souks of Marrakesh and beyond. And that we always hope to give better tools for the following generation so that they can make better patterns.

I just think that we get into a lot of trouble in human connections if we only see things through one rug pattern and we presume. And we shout for our own pattern to be the right one. And it is the task we all can try to develop and open up to, no matter what resources we are given. Respect towards different patterns of rugs, patterns of life. And then we can admire and be inspired by each other’s choices of patterns, choices of colors, and let each and one of us to show and tell about them themselves.

-You seem to like brown squares.
-These are pink and these are diamonds. Tell me about your pattern and colors. I’d like to learn.
